Our Core Beliefs & EYFS

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guides our engagement with your child's play and activities. We focus on nurturing young learners based on values directly from our school brochure.

Inspiring a love of learning is our passion

We believe children love beautiful and interesting things. We know children like to be independent and are capable and creative in their own unique ways. Our pre-school is full of beautiful and natural resources to provide children with the opportunity to investigate, explore and understand their world. Through listening to children we can understand their interests and what they seek to explore and provide interesting activities/resources and new experiences to engage and motivate them inspiring a love of learning.

We aim to:

  • Provide a safe, fun and caring atmosphere in a stimulating environment.
  • Work within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework (2014) and ensure equality of opportunity for all children and their families.
  • Strive for quality within our provision to ensure all children make significant progress.
  • Promote a healthy life style and use the natural outdoor environment whenever possible and in all types of weather.

Expressive Arts & Design

We value originality and self-expression. We support curiosity in music, dance, visual arts, and design technology, helping children appreciate their own creative choices and those of their peers.

Early Literacy & Practical Mathematics in Action

We bring stories to life through immersive, tactile story trays like Michael Rosen's 'Little Rabbit Foo Foo', featuring character props, puppets, and scenery that ignite a passion for books and expressive communication.

Our pretend play stations, such as our 'Tea Time' setup with real tablecloths, teapots, and priced treats, make mathematics meaningful through social sharing, price calculation, and counting.

The Great Outdoors

Outdoor Learning Policy

We believe active learning experiences outdoors are essential for young children. Our pre-school features a wonderful mud kitchen, rabbit care areas, and vegetable gardens to nurture a deep respect for nature.

Our Aim

At Chadwell Pre-school we hope to inspire a love and respect for nature that children will cherish for years to come. We consciously seek to nurture a positive attitude to the outdoors and enrich each child's understanding of the world around him or her. Our children spend as much time outdoors as they do inside and sometimes more! The garden is available for the children to access from the moment they come into setting until it is time for them to get ready to go home.

Heuristic Learning

We commit to offering heuristic and real purposeful learning experiences in the great outdoors. We believe active learning experiences outdoors are essential for young children and the outdoor learning environment provides children with opportunities to learn so many more new skills and in a different way to the indoor environment.

We encourage parents/carers to purchase warm and waterproof clothing for their child/children in order to access the outdoors in all types of weather and in all seasons.

What we do: Mud Kitchen

At Chadwell Pre-school we also have a wonderful mud kitchen. The children have the opportunity to explore the properties of soil and water and create many wonderful potions and recipes! All of our resources are authentic (real) encouraging the children to use real tools for a purpose and explore the weight and size of real objects.

Risk, Challenge & Real Tools

We also understand the need for children to take risks and find their own challenge. The benefits of providing activities which encompass risk and challenge allow children the opportunity to make the right choices and build their self-confidence. Children also learn to work together and help each other. Children’s safety is paramount. We ‘risk assess’ and provide activities following children’s interests to cater for such challenge.

Children who are confident climbers are able to climb our ‘dedicated tree’. Children and adults work together to build climbing structures which provide challenge. The majority of our ‘project work’ occurs outside. Examples of this are building shelters, building a bug hotel, building a climbing frame or growing vegetables. We often ask parents/carers to become involved too!

We believe children should use real tools for a real purpose. We introduce real tools like hammers, screwdrivers, saws and spades/forks. Children are taught how to use the tools to ensure their own and others safety. Our ‘Tinkering Shed’ provides lots of opportunities to investigate tools and explore their purpose. Children are supervised during these learning experiences.

Natural Investigations & Sensory Exploration

We fill our learning spaces with authentic natural objects and tactile sensory stations. From our 'Autumn Treasure Hunt' (exploring pine cones, conkers, leaves, and wooden counting discs) to our popular 'Drink of the Day' sensory station (squeezing fresh citrus, grinding mint and rosemary with real pestles and mortars), children build cognitive connections, rich vocabulary, and fine motor dexterity.

Real tools, organic textures, and hands-on discovery in every session.

Your Child's Journey

Settling Into Nursery Life

Starting preschool is an exciting milestone. We tailormake the settling process for each child to ensure they build trust and feel safe with our team.

1. Informal Home Visit

Our practitioners conduct a relaxed, friendly visit to your home before starting. This is a wonderful opportunity to exchange details and plan your child's initial schedule in a space where they feel secure.

Key person home visit

2. First Day (Stay with Child)

On your child's first day in the setting, we ask that you stay for the entire session. This allows you to understand our routines, while helping your child transition into the space with you nearby.

Parent and child first day transition

3. Key Person Partnership

We allocate a Key Person to your family who forms a special bond with your child and monitors development. We ask parents to be available for a 2-week settling period as children learn to trust us before being left alone.
